Michael Linnington
Lieutenant General (LTG), Retired
Lieutenant General (LTG) (Retired) Michael Linnington has spent the past forty-five years serving our nation, for our Soldiers, for our Fallen Heroes, and for our Wounded Warriors. Through his 35 years as a career Army Officer, LTG Linnington served in a variety of command and staff positions, including Commander of the 3rd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division (in both Iraq and Afghanistan); Commanding General, Military District of Washington/Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region; and Military Deputy for the Under Secretary of Personnel and Readiness.
Upon his retirement from the Army, LTG Linnington was named the first permanent Director of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency. In 2016, LTG Linnington became the CEO of Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) where he spent almost eight years leading and championing support for wounded, ill, and injured post 9/11 Veterans and their families.
LTG Linnington received his commission from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1980. He has a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and National Security Strategy from the National War College. He and his wife Brenda, a 1981 West Point graduate, have two adult children, Michael (West Point Class of 2005) and Tracy, and three grandchildren.
